Teaching Grammar at Junior High School

AT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

1. Introduction
There has been much questioning by teachers about the teaching of grammar. Two decades ago, grammar was supposedly discarded from the classroom. However, text books on grammar still remain in classroom cupboards and from time to time are dragged out for use and new grammar books are being published for classroom use, there are many teachers use the books to teach grammar although the student not interested to study and attention the teacher’s explanation.
Studying grammar is very bored because we will study of pattern and the students must memorize those patterns. Tha for teachers must be cleaver to look for strategy in order student interest the lesson. Moreover, the students of Junior High School need interest of condition ? to make understanding the lesson because they have been still children. So, they are easier to be bored to study they always play with their other friends. So, the teacher must take student’s attentions.




2. Discussion
a. Preparation
Before the teacher teaches the grammar,/ teacher explains about the definition, of grammar to the student. And teacher must prepare about the material.
b. What is the grammar?
Grammar is the rules that were taught. And students are expected to be able to analyze sentences into parts. There is clearly a place for helping students which such language aspects as punctuation, abbreviation, and word usage when the need arises.
Grammar usually used in writing activity. In Junior High School just learn basic grammar. So, teacher must be able to teach seriously in order that the students have a good basic of grammar.
The function of grammar is the student can speak english very well, if the writing activity the student can write used the grammar. Grammar is a part of the basic to study English because in part of English for example speaking, reading, listening and writing we need grammar or structure.
We as teacher especially teacher in senior high school be for we start out lesson about grammar we must have learning program, what and how we will teach grammar. I will start the learning grammar program from the first class in junior high school.


The first lesson is
• The Eight Parts Of Speech
The first time we have explanation about it. We introduce about part of speech to our students. We explain about kinds of part of speech which eight parts are:

 Noun (kata benda)
 Pronoun (kata ganti)
 Verb (kata kerja)
 Adjective (kata sifat)
 Adverb (kata keterangan)
 Preposition (kata depan)
 Conjunction (kata sambung)
 Interjection (kata seru)

• After explanation, teacher asks to the student “do you understand?” if the students have understood about part of speech, teacher gives task to do by students in order that teacher knows about students’ ability.
• Further more we discuss about imperative, prohibition, and request. Students who have ever taking English course having known about this lesson but teacher must teach seriously.
• Third lesson is TENSES. This lesson is difficult if the students cannot memorize and have not many vocabularies because this is the basic to study writing. There are sixteen parts of tenses. The assignment of teacher is to give explanation and make a question but we must remember that the grammar lesson is born so we as teacher must make a good situation don’t make bore and difficult we must became smart teacher and make the student felt happy study grammar.
3. Conclusion
When we become the English teacher in Junior High School and we teach at the first class, we must be clever to manage the condition in the classroom and we can look for strategy order that the students can attention with our explanation because grammar is the difficult lesson so students will fell boring.
