Teaching English Using Song In The Foreign Language Classroom

TEACHING ENGLISH USING SONG IN THE FOREIGN
LANGUAGE CLASSROOM

I. Introduction
Foreign language has two meanings. First of all, it refers to the chronology of language learning. Secondly, language is any language acquired (or to be acquired) later than the native language.
Foreign language can express a relationship between person and language. The language is new to an individual. It does not necessarily express the legal status of a language. A foreign language is used to refer to the level of language command in comparison with a primary of dominant language.
This is true especially with pop songs which are part of youth culture. These song also tend to deal with problems interesting to young people and the students identity with the singers and want to understand the word. Song are also useful in teaching the rhythm of the language and informing the students about the culture of that language’s speakers.




II. Discussion
1. Foreign Language
Foreign language has two meanings. First of all, it refers to the chronology of language learning. Secondly, language is any language acquired ( or to be acquired ) later than the native language.
This definition deliberately leaves open how much later second language are acquired. At one extreme the second language learning process takes place at an early age when the native language command is still not perfect.
Foreign language learning is often undertaken with a variety of different purpose in mind. For example travel abroad, communication with native speakers, reading of a foreign literature, or reading of foreign scientific and technical works.
A foreign language usually requires formal instruction and other measurement for the lack of environment support.
Foreign language can express a relationship between person and language. The language is new to an individual. It does not necessarily express the legal status of a language.
2. A Model Of Teaching
The model for the study of classroom teaching distinguishes four categories :
- Presage variables are the characteristics which teachers as individuals or as a group bring to teaching, their own formative experiences, their training and their personal qualities.
- Context consist of the condition within which the teacher must operate. The community, the school, its environment, and the students them selves.
- What teachers do and what students do in the classroom, teacher classroom behavior and students classroom behavior collectively described as process.
- Product refer to the out come of the teaching learning process.
3. Song
Song is short piece of music with words that you sing song in general music for singing at a very low piece.

4. The Importance Of Song
Song is very important in teaching learning process because song is a powerful tool for language learning and memory, and an important component of experience and makes learning a foreign language more fun.
Melodies and rhymes guide learners to speak in a native way. Singing song increases vocabulary and speech patterns. Some songs can be used to teach specific vocabulary.
Teacher – created song can help students memorize grammar and vocabulary. Song can be student concentration and memory.
5. Foreign Language Classroom Through Song
Teachers use song in foreign language classes for several reasons. The main reason in the good atmosphere it creates in the classroom. Students relate to songs as a part of entertainment rather than work and find learning vocabulary through songs amusing rather than boring.
This is true especially with pop songs which are part of youth culture. A foreign language indicates a lower level of actual or believed ability.
In teaching learning process there are four categories first of all, presage variables. Secondly context, than process and the last product or outcome.
Teachers use song in foreign language classes for several reason. The main reason is the good atmosphere it creates. In the classroom, student relate to songs as part of entertainment rather than work and find learning vocabulary through songs amassing rather than boring.
The other problems that teachers have with using songs in the classroom in the “ non – standard “ grammar in many of the song and the “ non – serious “ image of the pop songs.
The non standard grammar will confuse the foreign language students, because not all song are suitable for foreign language classes. But students usually can deal with the non – standard grammar use in most of the song.
